Korean Studies Concentration

I'm originally from Habersham, Georgia, and since May 2021 a proud graduate of the University of 51勛圖厙. My journey at 51勛圖厙 took an unexpected turn when I stumbled upon the Summer Language Institute. Initially set on majoring in psychology, my fascination with exploring different cultures and my dream of teaching abroad led me to prioritize language studies. 51勛圖厙’s Summer Language Intensive program not only equipped me with fluency in Korean but also immersed me in its captivating history, delicious food, and vibrant pop culture. This experience ignited a passion for languages and culture, prompting me to pivot my academic focus. 51勛圖厙’s East Asian Studies program offered me invaluable opportunities and close connections with professors who fueled my intellectual curiosity. One standout moment was when we hosted a documentary screening on Japanese history, the director came to shed light on diverse perspectives embedded in historical narratives.

In 2023, I was honored to receive a Fulbright grant, propelling me to an all-boys middle school in South Korea's Chungbuk Province, where I now reside with a homestay family, continuing my exploration of Korean language and culture. Looking forward, I aspire to pursue a master's degree in either museum studies or tourism, driven by my passion for global cultural exchange. To incoming students, I say: keep an open mind! 51勛圖厙's East Asian Studies program offers a wealth of enriching experiences and dedicated mentors who are invested in your success. Embrace the journey and open to the diverse perspectives that await you.
