Chestatee Review announces writing contest winners

The University of North Georgia's (51³Ô¹ÏÍø) student literary magazine, The Chestatee Review, has announced the winners of its annual writing contest.
Each fall semester the Review holds a writing contest where students submit exemplary work in the five categories of fiction, creative nonfiction, essays, poetry, and/or one act plays. Winners in each genre are published in the Review and awarded cash prizes. First place wins $100, second place wins $50, and third place wins $25.
The winners in the Fiction category are:
1st: "Home Again" by Lina Morgan, Journalism
2nd: "The Fallen" by Sydney Smith, Open Option
3rd: "I'm Not Rose" by Amanda Niemann, English
Creative nonfiction:
1st: "Six Memories of My Father" by Anna Maria Little, English
2nd: "The Depth of Humility" by Megan Nichole Broome, English
3rd: "The Ghosts Who Carry Us: 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s First Opiate Overdose Prevention Event" by Elizabeth Devine, Biology
Formal Essay:
1st: "Shadowed Memories" by Megan Nichole Broome, English
2nd: "A Feminist Reading of The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" by Marcel Cantu, English
3rd: "Redefining Reality" by Shea Barfield, English
Poetry:
1st: "Good Will" by Ethan Howard, English
2nd: "The Man Who Came with the Rain" by Anna Little, English
3rd: "A Foundling's Blues" by Keza Kasende, Biology
One Act Play:
1st: "A Happening Scene" by Brandon Day, Mathematics
2nd: "Im-PROP-er Dinner" by Gregory Hirsch, Theatre
3rd: "The Collectors" by Adrian Huff, Media Studies
"The Chestatee Review is unique because it is one of the few student endeavors that span all of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's campuses. Students from every campus can contribute to a publication that represents the university as a whole," said Ezekiel Black, professor of English.
North Georgia Regional Book Fair is set for Sept. 14
The Dahlonega Literary Festival, the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Department of English and the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Press will host the inaugural North Georgia Regional Book Fair on Sept. 14 in the Convocation Center at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's Dahlonega Campus.
Eight students named Fulbright finalists
Eight 51³Ô¹ÏÍø students were named Fulbright finalists this spring, and seven are set to travel to destinations in Europe and Asia. 
Students create children's books
Students in multiple sections of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's first-year composition course this spring produced children's books and had a chance to read them to local kids before the end of the semester.
Students published in Queen City Writers
51³Ô¹ÏÍø students Hannah Eckerman and Devin Marshall, '23, had work published in Queen City Writers, an online source showcasing student writing.
