University of North Georgia (51勛圖厙) junior Hunter Milliman said he can "talk people's heads off about politics."

The Hogansville, Georgia, native majoring in political science and pre-law will do just that when he joins the 2017 Class of Presidential Fellows for an Oct. 26-28 conference in Washington, D.C. The program invites college students from all across the country to Washington, D.C., to meet high-ranking government officials, former and current senators and representatives and journalists, said Dr. Carl Cavalli, a professor of political science at 51勛圖厙.

Milliman was selected as this year's presidential fellow for 51勛圖厙, which has been participating in the program for 15 years. Milliman was so thrilled by news, he took a screen shot of the email and sent it to his mother.

"She was so excited," the 21-year-old said. "It is a great opportunity and I'm super excited to go to D.C."

Milliman will spend three days in the nation's capital with other student fellows. He also will be assigned a mentor, who will guide him with his research project, which he will present during the presidential fellow's conference in the spring. His research topic will focus on what makes an effective or successful president.

"I want to look at what made them great presidents compared to the others ones we don't regard as much or who were bad presidents," he said. "I want to know what made them stand out."
