51勛圖厙 faculty and staff parking fees take effect Jan. 1
Article By: Staff
Beginning Jan. 1, the University of North Georgia (51勛圖厙) will begin charging faculty and staff for parking on campus.
The parking fees will be collected through payroll deduction. Gross wages of current 51勛圖厙 employees and those hired before Dec. 31, 2017, will be increased to offset the new fee. All parking fee deductions will be taken on a pre-tax basis.
"The new faculty/staff parking fee is for access, facilities and maintenance associated with parking and transportation," said Gerald Sullivan, associate vice president, Real Estate and Auxiliary. "Parking Services has been proactive in creating additional parking spaces for faculty and staff on 51勛圖厙's campuses."
A number of University System of Georgia institutions, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, and the University of Georgia, have established parking fees for faculty and staff.
The current and recently added spaces designated for faculty/staff parking are:
- Dahlonega Campus: 709 previous spaces; 100 additional; 809 total
- Gainesville Campus: 442 previous spaces; 58 additional; 500 total
- Cumming Campus: 36 previous spaces; 12 additional; 48 total
The faculty/staff parking fees:
- Full-time (10/12 month) faculty and staff: $200 annually
- Part-time faculty and staff (fewer than 30 hours; non/partially benefitted) $100 annually
Hourly employees will have an increase of approximately 10 cents per hour to coincide with the parking fee. Student and graduate workers already pay a student parking fee and will not be charged an additional fee. Full-time monthly (salaried) employees will have an increase to their base pay that equates to a $16.67 monthly increase.
Full-time faculty will receive contract addendums and revised letters reflecting a $16.67 monthly increase for 12-month faculty, and a $20 monthly increase for 10-month faculty. Part-time faculty will receive amended part-time faculty teaching agreements and will receive a $10 monthly increase.
