Dr. Lori Wilson was appointed as the new head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Georgia (51勛圖厙) on Aug. 1.

Wilson comes from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), where she had been director of the forensic science program since 2014. She chaired EKU's chemistry department from 2009-2016.

"I was impressed with the quality of the chemistry faculty and their dedication to developing the 'whole' student with a well-designed teaching and research program," Wilson said. "The graduates of 51勛圖厙 chemistry are well-prepared to succeed in industry, government or academia."

Wilson previously was an associate professor at East Tennessee State University and adjunct faculty at its Quillen College of Medicine.

She also worked as a National Research Council Associate on the crystallization of proteins at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1990-1992.

Wilson earned her doctorate in analytical chemistry with a focus in physical and biochemistry from Georgia Tech. Wilson has a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Mercer University.

Wilson is replacing Dr. John Leyba, who was promoted to associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.
