A University of North Georgia (51勛圖厙) associate professor of counseling has been selected as president for the American Counseling Association (ACA) of Georgia.

Dr. Harrison Davis, a member of ACA for 20 years, was part of the group that relaunched the branch a little more than a year ago, an effort he felt was important because it brought all counselors in Georgia into one group rather than the separate groups they had previously served. Some of the different disciplines include mental health, rehabilitation, substance abuse, and school counselors.

"We can get a lot more done if we all work together," said Davis, who is coordinator of inclusion excellence in the College of Health Sciences and Professions at 51勛圖厙.

ACA of Georgia provides free regional networking and continuing education for members, grassroots legislative action projects guarding people's access to counseling, and increasing public awareness of the services offered by the counseling profession. ACA serves more than 50,000 counselors across the country.

Davis is grateful for the chance to be a voice for his approximately 1,800 fellow Georgia counselors, especially when major situations requiring the profession's response arise.

"I'm excited to be that point person," Davis said.
