Amanda Ayers knows "not every college serves veterans" the way the University of North Georgia (51勛圖厙) does.

To connect with that mission, she and the members of 51勛圖厙's Gainesville Campus' chapter of Sigma Tau Delta used a recently awarded grant to replenish the Military Resource Center's lending library in Gainesville. As the International English Honor Society, awards funds to its chapters to support local literacy projects.

The Alpha Upsilon Phi chapter bought multiple copies of 14 different titles of new military-themed books that range from literature and creative fiction to nonfiction and memoir.

"The Military Resource Center's lending library was depleted," Ayers said. "There was a need for revitalization."

The honor society worked with Dr. Kristin Kelly, associate professor of English, to develop the relevant list of books. Dr. Leigh Dillard, associate professor of English and co-adviser of Sigma Tau Delta, said the group conducted a price comparison to maximize the funds.

"This project was a great way to do something different and impact our students here," Dillard said.

This was the second time Sigma Tau Delta received a project grant. Previously, the chapter used grant money to build a and place it outside the Martha T. Nesbitt Academic Building.
