Men's golf team and two women's players earn regional spots

The University of North Georgia (51³Ô¹ÏÍø) men's golf team has earned its first NCAA regional appearance and two 51³Ô¹ÏÍø women's golfers earned individual selections to the Division II Super Regionals.
The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø men's team is ranked No. 19 nationally, and the women's team checks in at No. 21 in the latest national poll.
The men's team will compete in the South/Southeast Super Regional set for May 6-8 at Streamsong Resort in Florida.
The top four teams from each 16-team super regional and the top individual not with a team from each super regional will advance to the NCAA Division II men's golf finals May 17-21 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
"We have increased the demands on our players, and it's good to see their hard work rewarded after all the adversity they've faced during the pandemic," said , 51³Ô¹ÏÍø director of golf and men's golf head coach. "It's absolutely phenomenal for the program."
The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø men's golf team finished fifth at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) tournament April 16-18.
Additionally, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø women's golfers and earned individual selections to the NCAA Division II South Super Regional. This is the second time Sabol has earned an individual spot, while Ananthasane is going for the first time.
"Both are incredible teammates but also fierce competitors," 51³Ô¹ÏÍø women's golf head coach said. "So as their coach, I am thrilled to watch them both compete again."
Sabol earned her third PBC Player of the Year honor this spring, while Ananthasane was the PBC Freshman of the Year. Ananthasane also earned the individual PBC tournament championship as 51³Ô¹ÏÍø finished second as a team April 16-18. Both women and teammate Carson Roberts were selected as all-conference performers.
The NCAA Division II women's golf Super Regional competition will be conducted May 3-5 at Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Tennessee. All participants will play in the 54-hole competition. The top three teams and top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the NCAA championships.
Sabol and Ananthasane had success in the NCAA Regional Preview in October at the same course with Sabol winning individual medalist honors and Ananthasane finishing third.
The two Nighthawks will be joined by nine teams and two other individuals.
The NCAA Division II women's golf championships will be held May 11-15 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Michigan.
