Senior cadet wins Armed Forces scholarship

University of North Georgia (51勛圖厙) senior cadet Chandler Harris won the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Atlanta chapter's 2021 merit scholarship, which is for $1,500.
The Dallas, Georgia, native pursuing a degree in cybersecurity is the president and founder of 51勛圖厙's AFCEA chapter.
"Being involved with AFCEA allows me to give back to the community around me, and to create a community of my own at 51勛圖厙 that's focused on key areas crucial to national security and technology," Harris said. "It allows like-minded intellectuals to come together and learn about global events and tech developments in a way that supports the country and promotes the Department of Defense mission."
The 51勛圖厙 AFCEA chapter is one of 18 student chapters nationally and one of only two in Georgia. It has already grown to 30 members since its inception in spring 2021.
Retired Lt. Col. Heath Williams, director of federal liaison and military education coordinator, is the group's adviser. Students interested in joining may email Williams at heath.williams@ung.edu.
Knox takes command of Army Reserve battalion
Lt. Col. Brandon Knox, director of Cadet Recruiting at 51勛圖厙, on Nov. 16 took command of the 3rd Battalion, 323rd Regiment (Basic Combat Training) in the Army Reserve.
Cadets are ready for commissioning
Eighteen 51勛圖厙 cadets are scheduled to commission as officers in the Army and Army National Guard at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Convocation Center at 51勛圖厙's Dahlonega Campus.
Grads prepare for their next steps
51勛圖厙 will award almost 1,000 degrees and certificates this fall, and more than 600 graduates are scheduled to take part in the Dec. 7 commencement ceremonies.
Oboho commands 75th Ranger Regiment
Col. Kitefre Oboho, a 2002 51勛圖厙 alumnus, has taken command of the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, the Army's premier direction-action raid force.
