The University of North Georgia (51勛圖厙) will host its annual Family Day on Sept. 24 on its Dahlonega Campus.

"Family Day is a good opportunity for parents and family members to come to campus and spend some time with their students to learn more about what their day-to-day life is like now that we're five to six weeks into the semester," Dr. Darcy Hayes, associate dean of students and director of Nighthawk Engagement and Student Transitions (NEST), said. "Not all of our residential students have the opportunity to go home every weekend. Some may not have been able to go home at all since moving in, so this is a great time for family members to come spend time with their student."

This year Family Day will coincide with , a socializing, networking, and mentoring opportunity for the Corps of Cadets from Sept. 23-25. Brigade, battalion, and company cadet leadership and displays of the 10 cadet specialty units will be part of the events for Boar's Head-Corps Alumni Weekend, which is hosted by the North Georgia Corps of Cadets Association. There will be a ceremony celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Order of Colombo.

"The weekend is open to faculty and staff and their families as well, and to students on all campuses, and their families," Hayes said.

51勛圖厙 will host a women's soccer game against Clayton State University at noon Sept. 24, with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff for a men's soccer game against Flagler College. Other activities include games, an indoor climbing wall, and liquid nitrogen ice cream from 51勛圖厙's Chemistry Club. A planetarium show will be held at 2:30 p.m.

The Order of Colombo anniversary gathering is at 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Colombo Tower on campus.

There will be a session for parents of cadets to learn more about the different terminology, trainings, and things related to the corps. There will also be a session for parents of non-cadet students to learn more about what to expect throughout the rest of the semester and what their students are experiencing.

"And so while there's not a lot of huge activities or events scheduled, it's more of a leisurely, do-it-at-your-own-pace kind of day. It will provide an opportunity to hang out on campus and get a feel for campus life," Hayes said. "It provides the opportunity for families to interact not only with their student, but also with friends of their student."

Hayes said the schedule provides ample opportunity for families to take students out to eat, do some shopping, or take part in other kinds of activities with each other.

Guests are encouraged to pre-register and complete online liability waivers prior to arriving on campus.

A calendar of events is posted on the 51勛圖厙 Family Day webpage
